Writing Tips for Success

✏️

Be Authentic

Write in your own voice. We want to hear your story, not what you think we want to hear. Share genuine experiences and honest reflections.

📄

Show, Don't Just Tell

Use specific examples and stories to illustrate your points rather than making general statements. Paint a picture with your words.

🎯

Stay Focused

Answer the prompt directly and stay on topic throughout your essay. Every paragraph should connect back to your main theme.

💡

Be Reflective

Demonstrate self-awareness and growth. What have you learned? How have you changed? What do these experiences mean for your future?

🔍

Proofread Carefully

Ask a teacher, parent, or mentor to review your essay before submitting. Fresh eyes catch errors and provide feedback.

"The best essays are those that reveal something meaningful about the applicant’s character, values, and journey. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable and share what lacrosse has truly meant to you."

— SEWALAX Scholarship Committee
